Community Education Classes and Activities

This hands-on workshop introduces participants to the basics of digital design as they create their own custom pottery stamp. Through guided instruction, attendees will learn how to design simple shapes, patterns, or initials and prepare them for 3D printing. By the end of the session, each participant will have a personalized stamp ready for use in clay projects, gaining practical experience in both digital modeling and additive manufacturing.

Participants learn how to design custom pottery ribs—whether for smoothing, shaping, or adding unique textures—using simple 3D modeling techniques. The session focuses on experimenting with form and function, giving each participant the freedom to create a rib that suits their personal working style. Once the design is complete, the model is prepared for 3D printing so everyone can take home a finished, functional tool to use in their pottery practice.

This concept was developed as the Arts & Enrichment Department’s contribution to the South Suburban Spring Community Event. It was designed to promote both the 4-week 3D Printing & Design course and the 3D Printing Lab in an engaging, interactive way. The activity takes the form of a scavenger hunt, where participants search for a hidden treasure chest. The first person to find it is rewarded with a complimentary 3D print from the 3D Printing Lab.
